Bluebell Sunday 2022 at Okehampton Castle

Bluebell Sunday 2022 at Okehampton CastleCome see us return for Bluebell Sunday 2022 at Okehampton Castle; on 15th May entry is free and gates open at 10.00am. West Devon Swords will be there with talks, demonstrations and displays.

Lost to the pandemic in 2020 and 2021, this annual event marks the changing of the seasons and the coming of the bluebells throughout the castle’s woodlands. Now a picturesque ruin, Okehampton Castle was once the largest castle in Devon.

With stalls, nature trails, choirs and the castle itself, Bluebell Sunday is part of the Simmons legacy. Local benefactor Sydney Simmons gifted the castle to the Okehampton Castle Trust in 1917. Now under the stewardship of English Heritage, Bluebell Sunday remains an open-access event for the inhabitants and visitors of the town to enjoy.

You can explore the riverside and woodlands for the wildlife and bluebell flowers, and walk around the castle itself where you may just find some swordsmen recreating ancient combat arts.
