Multi-skills fiesta but no siesta for primary pupils

Image: Year4 multiskills day 2018West Devon Swords ‘Summer on Tour’ began in July with five hundred Foundation and Year One children from local primary schools taking part in multi-skills sessions at Whitchurch Wayfarers Cricket Club, over two days in beautiful sunshine.

Organised by OCRA, different taster sessions in various sports and activities were delivered by local coaches and young leaders. A full rotation of athletics, fencing, cricket, rugby, badminton, obstacle courses, mini martial arts, parachute games, football, dancing to World Cup football songs and Zumba kept the children moving.

WDS took the plastic Go Fence kit and proved you can teach the basics of Olympic-style foil fencing in ten minutes (or less) to any age group.

Mhairi McCall, on behalf of OCRA, said: ‘Thank you to Whitchurch Wayfarers for allowing us to use their facilities, the children had a great time.’
