In blazing sunshine, West Devon Swords mounted a range of activities to mark Okehampton Castle’s annual open day; Bluebell Sunday. English Heritage throws open the gates to the people of the town, according to the terms of the original Simmons bequest, while in the meadow below, alongside a gently flowing river, various local groups put on displays and activities.
West Devon Swords took along the plastic sports fencing kid for the juniors (and not so juniors), we presented our ‘1000 years of Swords in Five Minutes or Less’ presentation; whilst the members took advantage of the open space to do some historical swordplay with sword and buckler or longsword.
